The latest brand is Bahari Vodka. ‘Bahari’ means ocean in Swahili.
The vodka is the brainchild of Natalie Miles. In creating the Bahari Vodka, she wanted a liquor brand that had people from African descent in mind. She chose vodka because every time her and her friends would go out, it was all they ever ordered at the bar. It was their go to drink that gave her the tart and sweetness that she loved. However, the first time she tried vodka, the taste of it was nearly unbearable to get down. That’s when the idea came to her to have a smooth vodka made from sugarcane. She wanted to use a crop that told the journey of how people of African descent traveled all over world, and a brand that honors our her ancestors.
I had the opportunity to taste this vodka and I was blown away by how smooth it was. I’m a vodka connoisseur, through and through, so for me to say that, it means something. I first tried it by taking sips and then as a shot to get the full effect. To my surprise, it went down almost as if I were drinking water. So when paired with seltzer water or a fruit juice, it blends in perfectly.
I brought a bottle to different events to get my friend’s thoughts and they all enjoyed the vodka.
Currently, the vodka is sold in stores in the Miami area and online. I highly recommend this vodka.
