Packing Tips for a Weekend Getaway

Weekend travel is a mainstay for many in the work world.  Taking an extra day on either end of the weekend can be a welcome relief to the everyday work week, even if you are BFFs with your job.  The editors at LuxuriousPROTOTYPE put together a few sample weekend get-away options and how to appropriately pack for each.  Keep in mind that we presume you all don’t go combat style, so underwear is assumed included for the appropriate amount of days you’ll be away.   So, besides the undies, this guide is based on two nights and three days away from your home sweet home.

The Ski Bum

More than likely you’ll be participating in some form of winter sports when you pack for this type of get-a-way.  Get the larger suitcase out because you’ll be taking some bulkier items.  For daytime, wear your water-proof ski jacket in the car or on the plane.  Be sure to pack 2 sweaters that can be used either for staying warm or as dressier evening attire for your post ski activities. One pair of lightweight, polar fleeced ski pants, 2 pairs of jeans and a great pair of lightweight, but hip, snow boots — not those bulky ones favored by deer slayers.  Don’t forget at least 6 pair of socks (in case one or more get wet), gloves, scarf and several hats so that you can change up your look.

The Quick Euro

Those deals on airfare to Europe will likely be coming in the New Year.  For your daytime adventures at local museums or other sightseeing stops to Paris, Barcelona, or London, bring along a good pair of urban hiking shoes – heavy on fashion and comfort, please.  Bring one pair of jeans, a sweater, one turtleneck, several pairs of socks for daytime.  Pack a jacket, 2 dress shirts and a pair of comfortable fashion-forward shoes for the evening.

The American Beauty

You may decide to grab a flight or take a train to visit friends who live and thrive in other cities.  Depending on the city, you can include a swimming suit for potential beach or pool activities, if you happen to have friends living in Miami or Maui.  Be sure to pack 2 pairs of jeans, 4 dress shirts, a sweater, and a comfortable jacket for the evenings.  Include 4 pairs of socks and at least 2 pairs of shoes, one casual and one dressier pair.  You never know when a friend may have a last minute invitation to an art opening or the city’s new trendy restaurant.
