Mohegan Sun, located in Uncasville, CT, is a resort that features 3 casinos (one of the largest in United States), a golf course, over 70 shops and several bars and restaurants.
I didn’t know what to really expect of the resort besides what I read on the internet and have heard from colleagues. I just knew that I wanted to get out of New York City for a little while. I loaded up a 2014 Chevy Silverado with my bags and headed north for about 2 hours until I reached the resort. Upon first glance, I noticed how the massive size of the resort. Being on a Native American Reservation, the decor of the hotel stood out as it was completely designed in a Native American motif. The attention to detail was breath-taking.
Check-In: I checked in at the Aquai, which is the resort’s VIP check-in room. The room was warm and inviting, with a fireplace, leather seats and earth tone colors. The check-in process took no more than 5 minutes, plus I received a complimentary glass of champagne.
Luxe Scale: 9.5/10
Hotel Room: The room was really large. One of the largest rooms I’ve been in. The hotel room could have easily been a junior suite if it had a dividing wall. The expansive windows, plush bedding, and amazing bathroom contributed to the overall quality of the room. The bathroom alone receives 4 stars in my opinion. It was beautifully designed with pops eggplant color and silver. There was separate room for the toilet, which is always great if you are sharing the room with someone else.
Luxe Scale: 8/10
Customer Service: From the valet to the check-out everyone was very nice and warm. The little things stood out the most. For example, after returning to the room from a day of exploring, I received 4 Godiva chocolate pieces and a hand written note with the projected forecast for the following day. It was a simple suggestion but spoke volumes to me.
Luxe Scale: 8/10
Amenities: This place has the mother load of amenities. 3 casinos, restaurants, bars, 2 clubs, over 70 shops and a golf course. The resort is so large that you need to stay more than one night to really be able to experience everything that it has to offer. My favorite spots to hangout in the resort are:
Margaritaville – Margaritas, booths crafted out of schooners, a huge margarita bottle that comes from the sky, live music and balloon hats….what’s there not to love about this spot?
Mist (Nightclub) – The sky dome is probably the best part of the club. You literally feel like you are outside. Which is hard to achieve, being that it is practically in one of the casinos.
Bow and Arrow Sports Bar – With $2 draft beer, you can NEVER go wrong! Plus, there are several TV screens for viewing games.
Luxe Scale: 10/10
Additional:
- Free WiFi
- Easy valet system
- Mobile check-out
- BrewFest – Beer Festival and Brunch
- Spa
- Indoor Pool – Bar that serves food and drinks

Mohegan Sun Resort is great for a family trip or just getting away with your buddies. Even if you do not gamble, there is so much to do. Plus with all of the restaurant options, such as Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse, your taste buds and stomach will be thoroughly pleased.
