Smells like leather, piano and exclusivity. Makes the best Sazerac in town by skipping the sugar. Suspenders and rare whiskeys are in fashion. Every single spirit made in the world that poses sophistication and a few good thoughts finds its home in Brandy Library. Picture the quiet escape of an actual library; add soft piano music, warm wood and gentle whisper. The difference you won’t come here to escape but to impress. A lady will be taken in by the romance, a gentleman by the amounts of whiskey at hand.
In the golden brawn glitter of mahogany and spirits I find myself choosing my words carefully. I feel like a fountain, full of words pouring out like a contemporary Hemingway, but better. I may have made up a few hunting stories over vintage scotch but my intentions were good. In the Library it is never a regular sit down or small talk about work. This center fire of civilized libations deserves nothing less than timeless fiction. And if whiskey and a good story don’t get you in trouble, I don’t know what would.
One thing is certain calling it a bar is condescending. The spirited sommeliers that tend to your needs climb ladders to fetch the desired vintage. If they could serve the sun in the glass they would do it. I sip on and talk on, without a vestige of remorse because there is no other place I would rather be on a Friday night. If you want a thinking drink, an inspiration, or some advice from the distillers with the longest beards, put your good shoes on and join the Library. Stay good and proper.
