The Cutting Room
44 E 32nd Street
New York, NY 10010
The Cutting Room is a Murray Hill music venue/restaurant that was reopened in 2013 by Chris Noth and Steve Walter. With music being the main focus, performers such as Lizzy Grant, Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kid Rock, Vanessa Carlton, Lady Gaga, Sandra Bernhard, Mini-Kiss, and The Shells have performed at The Cutting Room.
The venue is decorated in true music hall fashion with photos of musci legends, a custom guitar bar, and a large stage for performances. What is great about the space is that there are so many separate rooms and balconies. The main area is more of a bar scene with tall ceilings, bright and open, while the stage area is darker and intimate in feel. Take a look up while in the main room and you will see a gorgeous stained glass and guitar chandelier.
The night I visited The Cutting Room, Billy Vera: Big Band Jazz performed. They were amazing. If you love big band jazz, you have to check them out.
To start the night off, I ordered their Classic Dirty Martini, to keep with the big band jazz theme. I’m not sure if it was the music, atmosphere or if it was just a great drink, but it was one of the best martinis I’ve ever tasted. Try the martini!
First Course
Loaded Potato Soup
White Cheddar, Bacon, Sour Cream, Scallions
The soup was delicious, the perfect starter. It was creamy with the perfect amount of sour cream and cheese. The portion was large enough to share with a date. Towards the end of finishing the soup, I was trying to find any little bit left by using the bread that came with the starter.
Shrimp Cocktail
Spicy Remoulade, Cocktail Sauce
I’m a sucker for a spicy remoulade sauce. It’s the Louisiana Creole in me! I had to try it, just for the sauce. I wasn’t disappointed. The sauce packed a lot flavor, but didn’t overbear the taste of the shrimp.
Second Course
Surf & Turf
6 oz Lobster Tail, 6 oz Filet Mignon, Roasted Herbed Fingerling Potatoes, Broccolini
Let me start by saying that my mouth is still watering for this entrée! The filet mignon, cooked medium rare, was juicy and very filling, by itself. The lobster was a bit tougher than I usually prefer, however, it made for a good addition to the filet mignon. If the lobster was served alone, I would say otherwise. Roasted herbed potatoes…enough said! With the butter and herbs, this side was a perfect complement to the filet mignon. The great thing about the meal, aside from the taste, was that it didn’t take an extremely long time to come to the table.
Overall, the experience of the live band, coupled with amazing food made for a phenomenal night. The Cutting Room is the perfect date spot for the music fan. With acts from all genres, it’s suited for everyone. Also, the prices are reasonably priced for the main courses, starting at $15.
