Harlem is becoming a hotbed for great restaurants. The neighborhood, known for it’s rich African-American/Caribbean American history, has become a destination for foodies who want an eclectic mix of cuisine options ranging from American soul food, classic Italian, and traditional Japanese, just to name a few.
One restaurant to join the group is Serafina. Serafina is known for its Italian food that extends beyond New York City and into other cities such as Mumbai. The classic Italian fare is a favorite amongst many New Yorkers with its several locations around the city.
The Harlem location brings a different type of feel, but with the same great taste. The restaurants features brick walls that have been graffiti-ed, which is reminiscent of Harlem’s rich and colorful history.
Here are some of my favorites:
Appetizers
Prosciutto e Bufaline
Prosciutto di Parma, Italy, with imported Italian buffalo mozzarella
Probably the best prosciutto and fresh mozzarella I’ve had, outside of Italy. It’s definitely on my top five list. The prosciutto is thinly sliced in-house. It practically melts in your mouth.
Make sure to eat it with the the sprigs of basil.
Calamari
Fried calamari served with a homemade spicy tomato dip
Entree
Ravioli al Tartufo Nero
Homemade black truffle ravioli and a touch of butter
Amazing! The black truffle flavor was extremely rich. This is a dish that can be served as a stand alone. The portion was quite hefty at about 13 raviolis.
Branzino al Limon
Baked with lemon and rosemary, served with a salad or roasted potatoes
Every last bite was flavorful. The branzino has a very clean taste with minimal fat.
Cocktail
Strawberry Basil Martini
Vodka, strawberry puree and basil
This will be my summer drink, hands down. The drink was quite refreshing and just the right amount of potency.
Make sure to stop by Serafina Harlem and try their dinner selection. You won’t be disappointed!
