Appetito Ristorante
47 West 39th Street
New York, NY 10018
Appetito Ristorante is a Midtown family style restaurant that serves up classic Italian dishes such as Spaghetti Bolognese, Scaloppine Appetito and Petto di Pollo alla Champagne. Opened in 1991, the restaurant features a very elegant and modern interior, but with a touch of old-world Italy charm with exposed bricks.
First up was the vino. I had their house pinot grigio, while my guest enjoyed the melbac. The pour was very generous as the server poured the wine practically to the top of the glass. There were no complaints from either of us!
First Course
Prosciutto con melon
Very thinly sliced prosciutto with fresh and sweet melon. The only drawback was that the prosciutto was very salty. I’m personally not a fan of really salty prosciutto. Luckily, the melon was sweet enough to balance the salty taste.
Mussels in White Wine Sauce
I’m a huge fan of mussels and have tried several different various of prepared mussels. I was slightly disappointed with the presentation. The wine sauce was practically congealed when it arrived to the table. Besides the sauce, the mussels were large, plump and tasty.
*Orange color mussels means that they are female.
Scampi Appetito
The shrimp scampi was lightly breaded and very flavorful. This appetizer was the best out of the three selections.
Second Course
Veal Scallipien
The veal was prepared to perfection. There was so much flavor.
Fettichini con Salmone
I was pleasantly surprised about how much salmon was actually in the pasta. There were huge chunks of salmon! I was expecting only a few, as most restaurants do. The pasta was cooked al dente, which I love. The sauce was seasoned well, creamy and plentiful, which I used my bread to soak up.
Third Course
Black Angus Steak
Steak, cooked medium-rare. My mouth watered as I ate each bite. Seriously, the steak was phenomenal. I was totally impressed! There was just the right amount of blood to have the steak quite juicy.
Fourth Course
Pineapple Sorbet
Who doesn’t like sorbet? To take it to the next level, the chef prepared the sorbet in a half hollowed out shell of a pineapple. It was a great and simple touch that increased the experience of eating such delicious sorbet.
Overall, the restaurant was pretty good. The ambiance was warm and inviting. The waitstaff got a little confused on some things, but it did not ruin the experience. I would recommended trying different appetizers. Appetizers are not their strong point, but the entrees were delightful and for a great price.
