The Robert Graham Spring/Summer 2013 men’s collection was revealed at a press presentation on opening day of New York Fashion Week. Evoking beach and nautical themes, his collection was a cohesive blend of bright pastels with youthful masculine overtones. It is definitely Ivy League meets Malibu with a dash of Miami heat thrown in to add some swagger.
Despite the post Labor Day presentation, the fabrics, color pallet and styling immediately triggered thoughts of one more sunset cocktail, one last dip in the ocean and one more stroll on the boardwalk. Each of Graham’s pieces could easily transition from a Hampton’s beach party to an evening BBQ in the city. The shirts and shorts made with washed woven, the chino-like soft denim, and tiny guitars and airplanes embroidered details on many of the shirts and accessories have a savvy sensibility that is fun and hip.
Hopefully the Mayan calendar is wrong and we’ll be seeing these Robert Graham jeans, shirts, and shorts casually reclined on a roof top deck or breezing by on the way to catch the Jitney heading east.
