Melissa and Comme des Garçons has collaborated to produce limited edition shoes that include one men’s style and one women’s style, which will be shoppable in Comme des Garçons stores worldwide later this month. The men’s style made its own runway debut during the brand’s Men’s Fashion Week show in Paris on Friday, January 19th.
The men’s shoe is a creative and artsy take on a structural white sneaker made in Melissa’s signature plastic.
Melissa Creative Director, Edson Matsuo, commented, “The surprising thing is that it’s a shoe with no sole, and no top, as if it were a single thing. It’s a single block, which is exactly what you’d expect from Comme des Garçons.” Melissa Marketing Director, Raquel Metz Scherer, adds, “Comme des Garçons is without comparison a reference on freedom of expression and innovation. Rei Kawakubo’s incredible vision has creatively shaped a brand that transcends modern fascination with fashion and ever on the cutting edge.” She continues, “Incorporating Melissa’s unique, wholly modern aesthetic into the Comme des Garçons universe to create truly collectible shoes feels perfectly organic.”
The arrival of the Melissa collaboration with Comme des Garçons follows on the heels of the most recent Costume Institute exhibit at the famed Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. “Art of the In-Between” was staged by Comme des Garçons founder and creative visionary, Rei Kawakubo, and curated by Andrew Bolton. Kawakubo’s work was chosen by MET Gala chair, VOGUE Editor in Chief and Conde Nast Artistic Director, Anna Wintour, to be the thematic subject for the annual Costume Institute installation, which ran May – September 2017.
The Melissa and Comme des Garçons collaboration is currently on sale at Comme des Garçons stores worldwide.
