This past week our Editors were invited to the Lands’ End Spring/Summer 2013 Editor’s Preview event held at Manhattan’s Pavilion. Although Lands’ End may be viewed as a remnant from the 80’s preppy set, this almost 50 year old company has brought a fresh new look to their men’s fashion line and has updated several of its traditional clothing items, providing for great luxe looks when combined with other designer men’s wear.
Starting with their men’s business clothing line, the company has designed athletic versions that are tailored and trim looking. With the new streamlined look, the company has also added some extra elements to make the clothes comfortable and quite wearable. For their jackets, they’ve designed a two-button front, proportionately narrow lapels, and armholes that were designed to provide movement without the coat lifting upward. These off-the-rack jackets and pants come in a wide range of sizes that provide an almost bespoke quality to the line-up. As well, these summer fashions are created from a lightweight wool fabric that has natural stretch and “Cool Wool” climate control.
The company’s Spring/Summer casual wear like their very wearable polo shirts, shorts, and sweat shirts also had a luxurious feel with soft 100% Peruvian Pima cottons and included some great bright summer colors. The look was solid ivy-league and could easily be paired with any high-end jeans and footwear to create a unique look that is very comparable to higher priced polo and shorts found at upscale retailers.
Overall the Lands’ End brand appears to have moved its menswear forward by keeping a finger on the pulse of current men’s fashion trends. The company can provide men with some great low cost options to add to their wardrobe, while maintaining a look that says luxury.
