The Italian designer has revealed a new set of kit specially designed for his countrymen at the Sochi 2014 games.
Within the past few weeks French sports-luxe brand Lacoste and American label Ralph Lauren have shown off their respective work for their national teams.
Now Giorgio Armani has struck a new two-year deal with CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) which will see him dress all the Olympic and Paralympic athletes in his EA7 sportswear line at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.
“Italy is built on the country’s passion for sport, a pastime that promotes positive values and brings people together,” said Armani. “I am extremely pleased to renew my collaboration with CONI for the 2014 Winter Olympics and the Olympic Games in 2016, two important occasions for our athletes, who will have our utmost support,” he added.
Armani produced slick navy blue tracksuits and formalwear for the athletes at the London 2012 Olympics last summer, but the track and field competitors wore separate technical gear by Japanese company Asics, while the Italian sailing team wore special designs by fellow luxury label Prada.
“Armani is simply the best calling card we could hope to have in order to promote the winning image of Italian sport. The renewed partnership we have agreed for the Sochi Games in 2014 and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will continue associating – in the name of success – the excellence of sport with that of Italian style,” explained CONI chairman Giovanni Malagò.
Unveiled October 30, the Olympic village ski suits come in a navy blue stretch technical fabric, and will feature alongside a range of leisurewear and accessories at the games.
