Gearing Up For The Kentucky Derby | What To Wear.

It’s almost that time again, Kentucky Derby Time, May 7, 2011. As a Southerner I am quite fond of the Kentucky Derby. Its the Southern man’s Polo. Besides being known as a great sport and a huge attraction the Kentucky Derby is known for its fashion. The most popular is the huge hats worn by women. Well, we all know what the traditional garb that women tend to wear at the Kentucky Derby, however us men sometimes dont know what is the  “traditional” look. Well, the Southern Gentleman is here to help!

I won’t be attending this years Kentucky Derby, however I will be attending a Kentucky Derby event here in NYC. It will be at Eleven Madison Park. Click here for the details. This event prompted me to start figuring out what I am going to wear. The invite said “Dress to Impress” and that’s what I plan to do!

Here are some staples that always go well at the Ketucky Derby:

-Blue Blazer
-Chinos (any color)
-Bow-Tie
-Derby Hat
-Ribbon belts
-Spring colored suit (Khaki, light grey, seersucker, etc.)
-Bucks or Oxfords
-White button down

While on my internet shopping search I found out that a favorite of mines, Vineyard Vines, is the Official Style of the Kentucky Derby.

Below are my top picks from their Kentucky Derby Collection.

Lucky Shoes Bow-tie – $45
 Off to the Races Bow-tie – $45
 Run for the Roses Bow-tie – $45
Run for the Roses Tie $85
Little Bits Pocket Square – $40
Lucky Shoes Canvas Club Belt – $49.50
