After the popular show, Mad Men, hit televisions across the country it seems as if more and more men are trying to pull off the 60’s Cosmopolitan look. I forecast that the look will only get stronger with the premiere of The Playboy Club. Now, I have seen some #fails and I also have seen some #wins. This is a time period when men really took much pride into what they were wearing. It wasn’t uncommon to see a man in a suit on any given day, be it at a work or at dinner. To achieve this classic look, I put together a couple of items that should be in ever gentleman’s closet who wants to take a stab at this look:
- The Skinny Tie
The skinny tie is the quintessential 60's accessory. The tie can have a pointed bottom or square bottom. Diagonal strips, thick fabrics and woven textures are your friend when it comes to these ties.
Burberry Cashmere Skinny Tie
- The White Pocket Square
The era when pocket square were really worn as a square and not a puff.
Brooks Brothers Handkerchief
- The Tie-Bar
The 60's were about being neat and always put together. Hence the tie-bar, which always keep your ties laying flat.
J. Press Slide-On 2'' Tie-bar
- The Fedora
Keep your baseball cap in the closet until game day. 60's gentleman wore fedoras.
Banana Republic Fedora
- The Slim Fit Suit
The suit does for a man what a little black dress does for women, it creates a shape. The slim fit suit creates the square shoulders and a lean physique.
