Spike Lee Lecture Series

Spike Lee Chancellor’s Lecture Series (Southern University)
Friday, January 30, 2009
7 p.m
Felton G. Clark Activity Center

The event started with a Greeting, followed by a Purpose of the event. Next was an Artistic Expression, this portion was one of the highlights of the event, besides the actual lecture. During the Artistic Expression students performed various scenes from many of Spike’s movies such as Do the Right Thing & School Dayz, including a dance by Jonas Vanderbilt and a mini fashion show.

Following the Artistic Expression was the Introduction of Speaker, then the actual lecture. The lecture it self was based on Spike’s life and the many obstacles he faced getting to where he is now. He spoke on going for your dream, listening to your heart & facing adversity. I thought his lecture was pretty good. His life teachings were so basic in their essence but still needed to be spoken.

Immediately after the lecture was the Q&A portion. He asked for educated questions (not all so educated). He answered 5-8 question then sat for photos and autographs. While everyone was getting their autographs my fraternity brother Feruad and I was eating at the private reception for him. The spread was pretty nice. Finger sandwiches, jambalaya, fruit, mini egg rolls, chicken & ham wraps and punch.

Good Job Southern University!
