The Scene: Thrillist’s Third Annual ‘Best Day of Your Life’ (BDOYL)
On June 20th, Thrillist hosted their third annual ‘Best Day of Your Life’ (BDOYL) event, the national holiday designed to take advantage of the longest day of the year and bring to life Thrillist’s mission to help guys live the most fun!
To sum up the Best Day of Your Life, 800 guests (including Scrubs’ star Zach Braff) converged for an all-day face-stuffing, drink-enjoying, absurdity-fueled event that took over a dozen of the Lower East Side’s greatest establishments. In partnership with Corona Extra, Ice Breakers, Kia Motors, Samsung Galaxy®, SHOWTIME® series RAY DONOVAN, TGI Fridays™ and Wild Turkey American Honey®, Best Day of Your Life 2015 featured:
- Benson’s served double-smoked thick-cut bacon and a summer lager as a cow picketed outside
- Cake Shop served an empanada and Radeberger beer while patrons took over the basement, serenading each other with live band karaoke
- Cheese Grille served their classic cheddar grilled cheese with a spicy tomato soup dip while a cheesy comedian entertained BDOYL-goers
- The Delancey, presented by Corona Extra, served ‘Sons of Essex Sliders’ and Corona Extra while a sand castle artist constructed a BDOYL sand castle and guests played corn hole toss
- Donnybrook served a grilled black pudding with caramelized apple slices and Irish beer while a leprechaun took photos with guests
- Lucky Jack’s transformed into a perfect Saturday morning – complete with a full cereal bar, a stacked line-up of Saturday AM cartoons and classic theme songs blasting over the sound system while Popeye the Sailor Man & Papa Smurf handed out cereal martinis
- Mazeish served the best falafel in NYC
- Melt Bakery served their Cinnamax (cinnamon ice cream sandwiched between snickerdoodle cookies) while an acapella group, presented by Kia Soul, sang for the crowds
- At Samsung’s ‘Museum of Instagrammable Moments’ guests took photos with the live-artist exhibits including a ‘table’ handing out champagne, a red carpet turned model, ‘Vertigo’ the trippy moving backdrop, an aerial view of NYC – prompting guests to jump on the trampoline. As Sunnyside Social Club performed guests additionally charged their phones at the charging station while event helpers used selfie sticks to take photos. Instaprint printed out all Instagram photos tagged with #BDOYL
- Set served a fresh coconut shot and Cajun corn while Coconut Girl and Corn Man walked around handing out shots
- Showtime’s Ray Donovan re-created Ray’s loft in the Thierry-Goldberg Gallery – offering lobster rolls, beer & whiskey tastings, freshly rolled cigars, a Showtime red carpet and a JackThreads closet giveaway sweeps
- The Skinny served a Chinese Sweet Sausage Corn Dog and Mint Julep as a burlesque dancer transformed from King Kong to a sexy Ann Darrow
- Spreadhouse served Iced Coffee while Dan Smith taught guitar
- Sweet Chick served their Maple Ice Pops while the Kia Soul parked outside played tunes
- Tapeo 29 served their patatas bravas, pan con tomate and sangria while a Flamenco dancer entertained the bar
- T.G.I. Friday’s Food Truck took over the parking lot of Clemente Soto Velez, offering handcrafted cocktails, seared Ahi tuna, sliders, bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos, ghost pepper and garlic Parmesan wings. At 6PM, the BDOYL after party kicked off with a special performance by DJ Pauly D from Jersey Shore.
- Two Bit’s Retro Arcade served a sake bomb and mountains of Rizzo’s Pizza while everyone played arcade games and stood in awe of the roaming magician performances
- Wild Turkey American Honey took over Grey Lady, offering batched cocktails (including The American Lagoon, Toasted Bee, Wild Buck, American Dandy and Sea Monkey) and oyster shucking while guests played over-sized Jenga
- Welcome to the Johnson’s served their Taquito Bloody Mary while grandmas handed out birthday cards, Werther’s hard candies and Prohibition “Beer & Pretzel” Cupcakes
“BDOYL is a physical manifestation of everything Thrillist stands for. As we celebrate a decade of providing guys with the ammo they need to live the most fun lives possible, this day is about cramming as much fun as we can into the plentiful daylight hours of the Summer Solstice,” said Thrillist Media Group co-founder and CEO Ben Lerer.
