On Sunday, May 26, 2013 about 170 guests made a Memorial Day weekend appearance in Bridgehampton to support Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) and its reproductive and sexual health services on the East End.
The 26th Annual East End Benefit, celebrating PPHP’s 80th anniversary, was held under a tent at the Channing Family Sculpture Garden. Molly and Walter Channing hosted the event and donated family wines from their neighboring vineyard. Guest nibbled on delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by Cynthia Battaglia’s Distinctive Catering.
The benefit also consisted of a silent auction where many artists and photographers donated their works, including: Steve Miller, Priscilla Heine, Perry Burns, Dan Rizzie, Susan Lazarus, Toni Ross, Terry Elkins, and Lucy Winton. Local merchants provided gift certificates, salon and spa services, show tickets, cooking classes and a private garden tour.
During the program, remarks were made by co-chair Rima Mardoyan, Molly Channing, PPHP President/CEO Reina Schiffrin, and Eric Fischl. PPHP Board VP Ann Pogue-Campbell served as master of ceremonies.
Benefit guests were invited to tour the SmartWheels mobile education and testing van. Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic’s new SmartWheels van will bring education and testing services directly to people who might not otherwise come to a health center. Anyone needing additional services will have the opportunity to schedule an appointment at a PPHP center right from the van. The new updated “health center without walls” (which replaces an 18-year-old van) will be staffed by a clinician to provide more services than the previous years. Last year, the SmartWheels staff reached over 3,200 people, in four counties.
