PULSE Contemporary Art Fair announces the ninth edition of PULSE New York for 2014, from May 8th -11th at The Metropolitan Pavilion, which will feature new and returning international galleries, spanning eleven countries. The new Director, Helen Toomer stresses the importance of curated booths, allowing the quality of artworks to be at the forefront of the fair. Currently, over seventy five percent of exhibitors will present solo, two or three artist presentations, which are integrated throughout the fair as PULSE, IMPULSE, and POINTS exhibitors, thereby encouraging connectivity between artworks, galleries and visitors and emphasizing the fair as a platform for discovery.
Approximately 50 international exhibitors will present an eclectic variety of artworks that encompasses everything from photography and mixed media to film and performance art within the venue’s 28,000 square-feet.
IMPULSE, which has traditionally been limited to solo presentations will now serve as an invitational platform for emerging galleries and be integrated within the main fair to catalyze connectivity amongst exhibitors and foster a kinetic atmosphere for the audience.
POINTS, is a PULSE first as it’s presentation of curated content by the fair’s Director highlights the work of alternative spaces and not-for-profit organizations.
PULSE Perspectives is a fresh series of roundtable discussions that will explore ideas within contemporary art and the art market, granting fairgoers intimate and exclusive access to industry insiders. This year’s discussion centers on the theme New Models. The official PULSE Perspectives schedule and participant pairings will be announced in the coming weeks.
This season’s PULSE Jury, an invitational guest panel that awards the PULSE
Prize, will be composed of Kathy Battista, Paddy Johnson, Julia Kaganskiy and Alice Gray Stites.
The PULSE Prize will expand to award an individual artist whose work is presented within a solo booth by a PULSE, IMPULSE or POINTS exhibitor, and will again be selected by an esteemed guest jury consisting of notable curators, collectors and influencers.
