On Tuesday, December 11, 2012 the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council held their 15th Anniversary Party at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City’s Upper East Side neighborhood. The Young Collectors Council (YCC) supports emerging artists and acquisitions of contemporary art for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s permanent collection.
The event began with an intimate dinner at the museum’s James Beard Award-winning restaurant the Wright, and was followed by a larger cocktail reception in the rotunda. As the guest’s partied the night away in the rotunda, they sipped vodka cocktails provided by New Amsterdam, wine and champagne. Just in case guests became famished, there were more than enough appetizers flowing to fill the most emptiest stomachs. As the night progressed the rotunda became full of people mingling, networking or just simply dancing to the sounds of Guggenheim collection artist Xaviera Simmons.
If guests wanted to take a break from the party action, they were able to view Now’s The Time: Recent Acquisitions, an exhibition now on view featuring contemporary works acquired by the YCC by artists William Cordova, Natascha Sadr Haghighian, and Alexandre Singh. Dinner guests received a limited-edition print by visual artist Alyson Shotz published by Artspace. Funds raised during this event went towards the Young Collectors Council Art Fund to support the acquisition of works by emerging artists.
The event wouldn’t have been possible if it were not for the YCC Co-Chairs for the event: Noreen K. Ahmad, Astrid Hill, Anne Huntington, and Dan Tanzilli. Artists in attendance included Julia Dault, Anthony Goicolea, Josephine Meckseper, Alyson Shotz, Xaviera Simmons, and Agathe Snow. Other guests included Princess Khaliya Aga Khan, Alexandra Fairweather, Bernard Lagrange, Athena Liu, Ondine de Rothschild, and Jacqueline Sackler, among others.
The YCC is made up of more than 300 individuals from around the world from the fields of art, architecture, design, marketing, fashion, finance, and law who share an interest in contemporary art and a dedication to philanthropic support. The YCC is the only group of young professionals in New York City that has made a lasting commitment to support emerging contemporary artists and expand the collection of a major, internationally recognized museum. In its 15 year history, the group has funded the purchase of more than 120 works.
The Young Collectors Council 5th Anniversary Party was truly a night to remember.
