My Day with "Brutha"

Brutha is a quintet of brothers from South Central Los Angeles from a large family of 13 siblings who came together to form a R&B group. Jacob, Poppa, Jared, Anthony and Grady, who all share the same father but different mothers, come from a long line of artist/musicians who never broke through to the big time. From the moment they could walk and talk, they were singing and dancing. They often are described as the modern-day Jackson 5. Their show “Brothers to Brutha” shows their transformation during and after they reached fame. The brothers are signed to Def Jam Records, and their self-titled debut album “Brutha” was released in December 2008.

The group formed in 2002, and was discovered by Brian McKnight who introduced them on the 2003 Soul Train Holiday Special. They then made several performances, including at Michael Jackson 45th Birthday party, while still working on solo projects.

In 2007, their uncle Donny “Drano” Harrell, CEO of Goodfellas Entertainment and Shakir Stewart, senior vice president of A&R at Island Def Jam, invited the group to Atlanta to do a filmed audition in front of Jermaine Dupri and a range of producers. It resulted in a one-hour original special TV show called “Jermaine Dupri presents: Brutha”, broadcasted March 24 on Peachtree TV. The group caught the attention of Jermaine Dupri who signed them to the Island Def Jam Music Group. -BET & Wikipedia

First, I must say these guys are mad cool, humble and full of humility. The whole time I was with them they were jocking around, laughing having a good time. You can go a LONG way by keeping that type of attitude in the “industry”. Each “Brutha” had their own unique style, like Anthony is the Ipod guy (always on his Ipod) and Poppa is into Nike SB Dunks (Gotta Luv the Dunks!). They had a good energy and presence about themselves. Oh and did I mention these “Bruthas” can SANG! I was with them the whole day, through all of their performances and not once did I hear them crack. I hope these guys keep up everything. Watch out America!

*C. Brown interview of Brutha coming soon!

I AM THE PROTOTYPE AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE! YA DIGG!!
