Louis Vuitton takes on the legend and life of boxer Muhammad Ali in a series of digital video ads. The ads honor the icon of boxing and pop culture. The fashion house hired rapper and actor Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) to put the outspoken Ali’s words into a beautiful homage to the man, while calligraphy artist Niels Shoe Meulman paints on the floor of a boxing ring. In this digital short, Louis Vuitton highlights the champs athletic abilities, but also his spoken words and his personal sense of style.
The other soon-to-be-released videos for other poems by Bey include: “Dreams” (already out), “Float,” “Life” and a special video tribute titled “Ali.” All will be in a similar format. Below are just a few of Yasiin Bey’s lines from his “Word” video from the series:
This is the story about Muhammed Ali.
The prettiest fighter that ever will be.
He talks a great deal in brags and diddy
of a muscular punch that’s incredible speedy.
the fistic world was dull and weary,
but a champ less than this had to be dreary.
Then comes someone with color, someone with dash
to get the fight fans running with cash
this brash young fighter is something to see
and the heavy weight championship is his destiny.
