Celebrating the expression of personal style, the Dockers brand’s 2013 “Get Dressed Like You Mean It” platform, and it’s resulting collections, are designed to equip guys with a solid foundation of refined yet rugged wardrobe essentials that take the guess-work out of “what-to-wear” and “how-to-wear” it. The product assortment addresses a number of wearing occasions, and offers superior design solutions for each. This diverse portfolio of styles ranges from the refined, offering a series of more sartorial options with bespoke details, to the casual, with an emphasis on comfort and ease; to the “street” level, with silhouettes that are reminiscent of slim-fitting jeans.
As part of this, the Dockers brand has teamed with six influential voices in the menswear industry to develop a series of short, documentary style videos that capture a day-in-the-life of each subject. Some talk about what inspires them; others discuss how their style has evolved over time; while others still reveal how their love of menswear began. Regardless of the story, the series offers a unique glimpse at personal style and the art that it holds in our daily lives—while also providing an inspiring sneak peek of the versatility offered by the forthcoming 2013 Dockers khaki assortment.
The six diverse men captured in these videos—each of whom most definitely “dress like they mean it”—are:
Nick Wooster
This video follows fashion pioneer—and Men’s Creative Director for JCP—Nick Wooster through the streets of Manhattan. Nick is wearing the Dockers Alpha khaki, a silhouette that takes the best elements of a pair of jeans—including the lower-rise, rugged construction and the great way denim breaks-in and softens with wear and age—and combines them with the refinement of an iconic 100% cotton khaki pant.
Mickey Rapkin
Mickey Rapkin is a published writer. Previously a senior editor at GQ, his first book, “Pitch Perfect,” about the competitive world of collegiate acappella groups, was published by Gotham Books in 2008. The film adaptation of the same name hit theaters earlier this fall. Rapkin’s second book, “Theater Geek,” was published by Free Press in 2010. For seven years, Rapkin was a senior editor at GQ magazine. Mickey is featured in his video wearing the straight leg, Saturday Khaki, a new addition to the Dockers® fit range, that lifts the spirit and polish of a week-day chino and combines it with the softest of cotton twills, making it perfect for weekend unwinding.
Sean Hotchkiss
Formerly a fashion-writer with GQ.com, Sean Hotchkiss is a well-respected freelance fashion journalist and consultant. You can check him out in the below wearing the Dockers® Alpha Khaki in a green camouflage print. Beloved for its great fit, the Alpha Khaki is a unique silhouette that takes the best elements of a pair of jeans—including the lower-rise, rugged construction and the great way denim breaks-in and softens with wear and age—and combines them with the refinement of an iconic, 100% cotton khaki pant. Based on the success of the green camo shade—first introduced during the Spring of 2012—the brand has introduced two new camo options: a tonal, wheat color-way and a fresh-looking, grey and blue option. All three camo colors are available now. See all three camo color options below.
Lawrence Schlossman
Lawrence Schlossman is the co-author of the newly released men’s style guide F*** Yeah Menswear, based on the popular website of the same name. He is also the creator of the tumblr How To Talk To Girls At Parties and the blog, Sartorially Inclined. Additionally, Lawrence is a contributing editor at Complex.com as well as the recently-launched, Four Pins.com. In his video, he wears the new Dockers City Khaki in New British Khaki. Slim and trim in fit, the City Khaki is versatile enough to take the wearer from 9am to 9pm and beyond. Mimicking the stance, attitude and great fit of the Alpha Khaki, the City Khaki combines the silhouette of that beloved Dockers style with some of the more refined touches found in a classic trouser, resulting in a dressier, more elevated approach.
Marcus Troy
Based in Canada, the wildly-influential Marcus Troy founded the blog Marcustroy.com, a digital brand experience, back in 2008. Since then, the web—not to mention the menswear industry—has looked to his site as a great resource for smart, sharp style direction. Marcus wears the Dockers® Alpha khaki, a silhouette that takes the best elements of a pair of jeans—including the lower-rise, rugged construction and the great way denim breaks-in and softens with wear and age—and combines them with the refinement of an iconic 100% cotton khaki pant.
Jared Flint
Currently an Art Director at the highly influential, on-line retailer, Gilt Groupe, Jared Flint has worked for some of America’s most progressive menswear media titles. Prior to Gilt Groupe, Jared was the Online Director at Antenna Magazine, the Senior Men’s Market Editor at Nylon and Nylon Guys, and a Contributing Editor for Men.Style.com and VMan.com.
