Last Friday November 1st the Museo del Barrio in New York City celebrated its ‘Dia De Los Muertos’ Junior Gala. The event was totally sold out and was a huge success. The decorations were incredible, with every kind of calavera, catrina and papel china all over the walls.
The organizers created some beautiful altares with fruit, sweets and sugar Calaveras. Guests were treated to a wide array of delicious treats, from Pan de Muerto to tasty paletas. Champagne was provided by Veuve Clicquot, while Hennessey was the basis for some exceptional cocktails.
There was a special performance by Latin-fusion star Xenia Rubinos with music by DJ David Lipke and Kyra Caruso.
El Museo del Barrio specializes in Latin American and Caribbean art, with a special emphasis on the large Puerto Rican community in New York. The museum features a collection of over 8,500 pieces of pre-Columbian artifacts as well as contemporary arts and crafts from Mexico and the rest of Latin America. The museum also sponsors numerous festivals and educational programs throughout the year. In 2009, the Museum underwent a $15 million restoration, reopening to much acclaim.
