Harding’s Celebrated the Kentucky Derby in Classic Americana Style

Located in the Flatiron District on 21st street between Broadway and Park Ave South, Harding’s offers a selection of American cuisine and craft cocktails in a chic and rustic setting.  Built in 1897, Harding’s restaurant and bar has an antique feel and has beautiful chandeliers hanging from the  25 foot ceilings, and is right at home on this busy stretch of street home of Marivanna and Giorgio’s.

Hardings Kentucky Derby

One Saturday, May 3rd 2014- Harding’s was standing room only for the 140th Kentucky Derby. The Flatiron Americana chic eatery and bar hosted a Derby party and everyone came out in their finest to enjoy a Louisville themed menu of  Mint Juleps, Peach Old Fashioned’ s, Fried Green Tomatoes Hot Browns and Fried Chicken and watch “the most exciting two minutes in sports!”

The Mint Juleps were refreshing, not too sweet and packed quite a punch, my companion was partial to the Peach Old Fashioned and has been raving about them since. We nibbled on the fried chicken and Harding’s version of shrimp and grits, which were a hit with the table. The portions were a bit small, but more than made up for in taste and the presentation of the dish was perfect.

The crowd was uniformly attractive and consisted of everyone in their Derby best, sporting big hats and bowties. By the time the actual two minutes were broadcast live, every table in the restaurant was filled to capacity, as was the bar area. People were having a wonderful time eating, drinking and socializing with old friends and new.

We highly recommend Harding’s, the food and ambiance were great and this location would be excellent as a place to grab cocktails with friends or even a date night. The next time you’re in Flatiron, make sure to check out Harding’s!
